Mykel Williams is next on deck here for the 2025 NFL Draft profile series. We’re grinding away on these so please feel free to comment and share them around. The more support, the better. Stay locked in with VSM because you won’t find better NFL Draft coverage out there. Without further ado, here is your scouting report write up on the Georgia defender!
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 8, Week 14, Conference Championships, Sugar Bowl
Williams, 20, was a five star prospect out of the state of Georgia during the 2022 cycle. He was also the 7th overall player in the country, number two defensive lineman, and third ranked player in Georgia. Travis Hunter and teammate Malaki Starks being the only two players ranked ahead of him in the state. Two names I’m quite sure you’re familiar with by now.
The Columbus, Georgia, native was a contributor right away as a freshman. He led the team with 4.5 sacks and was named as a Freshman All-American. In 2023 and 2024, Williams was named as a Second-team All-SEC member. I don’t think Williams is as freaky as Jalen Carter but this is a damn good football player.
Williams checks in at 6-foot-5, 260, and while we don’t have a Combine performance to work with, it’s pretty obvious the rest of the industry is sleeping here for all the wrong reasons. If you peep the Stock Notes at the top, you know Williams suffered an ankle injury during the season opener and was never healthy for the rest of the season. He, admittedly, says he was running at about 60%. Despite that, Williams notched 8.5 TFLs with 5 sacks and beat the piss out of Kelvin Banks in both games against Texas. Something that nobody else did all season. Not that Banks looked like a scrub but point being, 60% Williams against this caliber of player is ridiculous.
We’re also talking about a player who is incredibly young. He hasn’t come close to reaching his true potential yet. Again, this past year was supposed to be the wow season. We still got wow, but it came at less than ideal health. Are you factoring that into the equation or are you going to be the dummy that holds it against him and gets caught looking foolish later?
This is going to be the player that everyone wanted Travon Walker to be. He’s not as freaky as Walker but this dude is a horse at stopping the run. We’re talking about a guy who has 23 career TFLs and hasn’t sniffed what he will become. He’s the best run stopper in the draft and when he’s kicked inside to three technique on passing downs, he’s going to be a problem. Incredible length too, at over 34 inch arms, and it shows. The pass deflections are going to be there, too.
This isn’t just some hope and a prayer pick. This is getting a player at a discounted price while he grows into the player he will become.
Mykel Williams isn’t just a first round talent. He’s probably one of the best players in the entire class, and the people who view him differently are probably uneducated to the factors at hand here.
