MLB Insider Calls Yoshinobu Yamamoto The ‘Perfect Fit’ For Red Sox
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the big fish available on the free agent market in terms of starting pitching. The Red Sox are among a number of teams interested in his services. Just how realistic is it that the Red Sox win the Yamamoto sweepstakes? It sure sounds like they definitely have a puncher’s chance to land him.
Jeff Passan at ESPN called Yamamoto a ‘perfect fit’ for the Red Sox in his latest column (don’t click the link it’s behind a paywall. I got you on the quote you need to see.).
“With a current payroll of just over $150 million and Sale set to hit free agency after the season, Boston has room and need for a frontline starter. While there are plenty of options, (Yamamoto) in particular fits the Red Sox best — though to get him, they’ll need to run the risk of waiting, as he’s not expected to sign until after next week’s Winter Meetings, by which point other starters will have come off the board,” Passan wrote.
We knew the Sox had interest but this Passan report is great news for Sox fans hoping the team makes a big splash in free agency. Passan doesn’t just make stuff up out of thin air. Maybe if it was a Bob Nightengale report, it would be one to ignore. Clearly, the Sox are in the mix here.
If you watched my offseason guide, you know this is an opportunity that Boston can’t miss out on. Not if they actually want to get back into contention.
