MLB Considering An Insane Rule Change Involving Starting Pitching

Rob Manfred continues to do his “hold my beer” moment in terms of trying to further ruin baseball. It’s bad enough that Manfred is 7/8th re re and can’t even speak. MLB continues down a road of making terrible rule changes despite the fact that dummy Colin Cowherd claims they make zero changes. Now MLB is considering making another insane rule change involving starting pitching decisions.

MLB is considering a rule change where starting pitchers will literally be forced to stay in games. Starters will be forced to go six innings unless three conditions apply.

VIA Jesse Rogers of ESPN:

  • He throws 100 pitches
  • He gives up four or more earned runs
  • He gets injured (with a required injured list stint to avoid manipulation)

So let me get this straight… with the amount of arm injuries that are piling up in the sport, MLB wants to make them stay in the game longer while also having a clock that forces them to repeat an unnatural body movement more frequently? Sounds pretty ignorant. AND in the least surprising part of all-time, MLB wants you to know that this is actually for player safety, which is a lie but here is the quote to show it to you.

“We are interested in increasing the amount of action in the game, restoring the prominence of the starting pitcher and reducing the prevalence of pitching injuries,” an MLB official told ESPN. “There are a whole host of options in addressing those issues.”

How are you possibly reducing injuries by forcing a player to throw at least 100 pitches before they can legally be removed from a game? This sport is so asinine it’s insane.

Can we just talk about how the ego of Rob Manfred is totally out of control? The part I don’t understand (which is several parts) but why does Manfred think he can determine what a manager does in terms of making decisions on the field? It would be like Roger Goodell telling Andy Reid you’re only allowed to play the whole game with four defensive linemen on the field. Somehow Manfred can tell MLB managers that they now have a clock, a three batter minimum, and are now unable to make a pitching change before the 7th inning.

It’s totally insane and I fail to understand why nobody fired Manfred into the sun yet. He continues to ruin the sport and nobody is doing anything about it.
