May I interest you in a little write up on Notre Dame tight end, Mitchell Evans? Well, you’re already here so have a seat while we have a much-needed chat. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Irish tight end!
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 8, College Football Playoff First Round, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, National Championship
Notre Dame seems to put out one of these guys every couple of years or so. They all seem to be in the same sort of mold too. More of the in-line Y rather than the Big F version at tight end. Many people may think the same school comps are lazy. I don’t really agree with that. Mainly because these schools have a method to their madness when it comes to recruiting. Often times they want a carbon copy version of what came before them to fit what they’re looking for. Evans very much has the look and feel of those Notre Dame tight ends who came before him.
Evans, 22, was also at the East-West game. He participated in practice but wasn’t there for the game itself. They are not listed in the stock report notes because he was pretty irrelevant there. However, you can see plenty on Evans in the stock notes at the top of the post. If you read the notes, you know I’m not exactly fond of this player.
The Combine didn’t exactly do him any favors to change my mind. Too slow, lacks instincts in short area, and had a weird ability to injure himself when trying to speed up his pace. 2022 he missed the start of the season breaking his foot in Summer camp. 2023 he tore his ACL. 2024 he mostly stunk it up but had a few decent games down the stretch. Is it unfair to hold the injuries against him? Maybe, but it’s hard not to when you’re slow and already lack upside in the pass catching department.
Not an elite blocker but can hold his own. His 43 receptions this past year somehow led the team. 9.8 yards per reception is pretty underwhelming but that’s kinda who he is. Also notched three touchdowns for 421 yards. Only has two touchdowns prior to last year. Took him a long time to even be a real contributor and this past year is really the only thing we have to work with.
The lack of upside here as a pass catcher is what really makes me hesitant to go in on this player. Evans was a former three star player out of the state of Ohio and sort of feels exactly like a three star would. Lacks any imposing physical nature in routes. Brings zero YAC ability to the table. Very tight hipped and lacks any real wiggle movement skills to create separation on his own.
I have an undrafted grade on Mitchell Evans. If you want to say he’s better than Cole Kmet/Michael Mayer, I guess I won’t argue with you but those guys are also close to worthless at the NFL level. Evans feels like he’s in that same tier. I also think Evans is a notch worse than those guys were coming out. Lower end ND guy who isn’t much of a dude at the NFL level. He is not among my top ten for tight ends and would be shocked if an NFL team actually pulls the trigger here before the 5th round.
