Mitch Marner: Is Vegas A Realistic Free Agent Landing Spot?

Are the Golden Knights a realistic landing spot in free agency for Mitch Marner? Vegas may make more sense than you realize… (John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports)

Mitch Marner: Is Vegas A Realistic Free Agent Landing Spot?

The Vegas Golden Knights have had an interest in Mitch Marner for a long time. The only certainty for Marner heading into free agency is that it feels like his time in Toronto is over. Let’s just cut right to the chase because we’re really looking at two options here.

A: Will Marner chase every single last dollar? Bad teams with cash to burn will likely come calling, including Pittsburgh (Dubas factor), Anaheim, Chicago, etc. If Marner wants to chase every last dollar, I’m quite sure he can find it. With the cap rising, some of these teams aren’t even close to the floor, and a big pay day is going to be there.

B: How much does Marner want to prove that the Leafs were actually the problem? How much does winning matter? Can Marner actually pick a team that he actually thinks can win the Stanley Cup while still making his money, but maybe not as much as he could elsewhere…

That’s the real question in all of this stuff. If B is part of the equation here, the Golden Knights just might be the team that wins this free agency sweepstakes. Keep in mind, Marner has been paying Canadian taxes. What does that look like if he signs in no-state tax Nevada?

The breadcrumbs are too plentiful not to pay attention to them…

Vegas needs help at winger, and adding Marner makes total sense, minus the fact that they don’t currently have the cap space to get it done. I have a perfect suggestion for that to go through…
