The San Francisco 49ers have put themselves in a rut when it comes to their Quarterback situation. The man they need, Blaine Gabbert, isn’t even on their team.
Blaine Gabbert was selected 10th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He should have been kept over Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard.
First, let’s talk about the 49ers Quarterback situation. They used three quarterbacks this year alone. Neither of them was able to stay healthy. Jimmy Garoppolo was supposed to be their franchise QB. But, that dude can’t stay healthy to save his life. While Mullens and Beathard had decent seasons, they aren’t Franchise QB’s or even a good backup. Blaine Gabbert isn’t either, but the man did just win a Super Bowl.
SO WHERE DID THE 49ers go wrong?
“Don’t forget, this was the same guy who started over Colin Kaepernick when he lost his job with the San Francisco 49ers, and Gabbert has been bouncing around the NFL for the last five years just trying to keep his job as a backup.”
The above quote came from here.
They let Gabbert walk without any return, and haven’t gotten anything out of the quarterbacks they kept. Now, I’m not here to say that Blaine Gabbert could have led the 49ers to a Super Bowl but his leadership and experience is pretty unique.
While Blaine Gabbert didn’t play at all last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a season where Jameis Winston should have been benched multiple times. He did play in four games this season. He completed 9 of his 16 pass attempts for 143 yards and two touchdowns. While that is a small sample size. You can’t underestimate the fact that BLAINE GABBERT IS NOW A SUPER BOWL WINNING QUARTERBACK.
Now, his experience will be very helpful for teams hoping to make it to the promised land. He has learned from a seven-time Super Bowl champion!
