Sanders believes the Panthers are ‘in good hands’ with Young under center

Miles Sanders had a breakout season with the Eagles in 2022, rushing for a career-best 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns en route to a Super Bowl appearance. Despite helping the Eagles to the team’s second NFC championship in six seasons, Sanders didn’t re-sign with the franchise, instead finding a new home in Carolina.

Sanders signed a four-year, $25.4 million contract with the Panthers as a free agent, a move which will help first overall pick and starting quarterback Bryce Young during his inaugural NFL campaign. Young was the most-hyped prospect of the 2023 NFL draft, and many believe he will be Carolina’s franchise cornerstone for the foreseeable future.

Young is already facing some extremely high expectations. Not only did the Panthers draft him atop the board, but they traded away star wideout D.J. Moore and a handful of premium picks to get to that No. 1 overall spot.

During an appearance on the Mac & Bone podcast, Sanders was asked about the 21-year-old’s prospects ahead of the season.

Sanders described Young’s current play as “sharp,” adding that he had a “lovely touch on the ball,” according to Pro Football Talk. Young’s pocket presence and confidence were also mentioned by Sanders as two traits which bode well for the former’s future success in the league.

“He’s cocky in a humble way. The humblest way. He knows who he is. I think we’re in good hands,” Sanders said, via Pro Football Talk.

Panthers’ Playoff Push

Many analysts believe the Panthers will be competitive within the NFC South from now on with Tom Brady leaving and Carolina loading up its roster. Sanders echoes that sentiment.

Sanders said he thinks the Panthers can be “as good as we put our minds to” this season. A stellar debut campaign from Young and another prolific season from Sanders would certainly help the team leap into contention.
