Mike Vrabel is heading back to the New England Patriots, this time as the Head Coach. Adam Schefter was the first to break the news on Twitter/X:
Soon after the Patriots fired Jerod Mayo on January 5th, a week to the day in fact, the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel. Jerod Mayo’s firing and the Patriots eagerness could have came from Mike Vrabel interviewing with NFC East Rival the New York Jets. If that plan was orchestrated by Vrabel, it worked like a charm because now he is the Patriots’ head coach. One can assume that that is where Vrabel wanted to be the whole time as he as always talked highly of the Patriots.
As he should, Mike Vrabel won 3 Super Bowls with the Patriots as a player. He understands the standard of excellence that the Patriots are known to have. Mike Vrabel has had success as a head coach as he was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans for 6 years. He has a 54-45 record in the regular season and has made the playoffs 3 times with a 2-3 record in the postseason. He has some success but one could argue that the Titans roster was just not that good. He might of had more success if he just simply had a better roster and not have Ryan Tannehill being the main QB for the Titans.
Now, he takes over a 4-13 Patriots team that has the 4th overall pick in the 2025 draft with holes on the roster everywhere except QB. For Drake Maye, he gets an established and great head coach to guide his career. It won’t be long for the Patriots to get back into contention for the AFC playoffs.
