The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently 7-5 and are in the thick of the AFC Wildcard race. They have overcome the impossible. They lost Antonio Brown. Pittsburgh is on their 3rd quarterback. Everyone wants their head coach fired. Somehow, they are in the playoffs if the season ended today. Speaking of their head coach. Mike Tomlin should win coach of the year. He’s had multiple obstacles and has overcome all of them.
Tomlin should win coach of the year just for having Antonio Brown for years. AB is like child drunk on candy. There’s no stopping them from bouncing off the walls. Tomlin was able to do that for 9 years. If that doesn’t deserve a Nobel peace prize, I don’t know what does. Bill Belichick couldn’t deal with him for more than a week and the Pats are desperate for a receiver.
The Steelers are 7-5. Somehow, the Browns are 5-7. Cleveland has way better players. Tomlin has dealt with Ben Roethlisberger going down for the year. He was then given Mason Rudolph who flat out can’t play. Right now, the Steelers are riding with Duck Hodges as their quarterback. He’s known as a better duck caller than he is a quarterback. The Steelers are winning anyway.
The Steelers rank 5th in yards allowed and 6th in point allowed. Outside of TJ Watt, the Steelers don’t have a game changing talent. Devin Bush has made a huge difference. Still, the Steelers are outperforming their talent level. This is an organization that made a bold trade for Mikah Fitzpatrick when they could have easily tanked. Now they’re in line to make the playoffs and Tomlin deserves credit for that.
Bang on Mike Tomlin all you want. Right now they’re running out Duck Hodges, Benny Snell, and Dionte Johnson and winning football games. If the Steelers make the playoffs, there isn’t a better coach of the year candidate than Mike Tomlin.
