Mike Tomlin has already failed the George Pickens test. The former University of Georgia wide receiver is clearly frustrated with the Steelers’ offense. Tomlin clearly doesn’t care. This is not going to end well…
When asked about Pickens, Tomlin compared him to a pebble in his shoe. Ouch!
“Like breathing, it’s easy,” he said. “I know it’s a cute story for you guys, but it is a pebble in my shoe, to be quite honest with you, in terms of the things that I have to do in an effort to get this group ready to play this week. Our focus is on the Green Bay Packers and what we’re all going to do in this football game, and I can’t state it any plainer than that. It’s like reality television, the way you guys follow social media and write stories about it.”
“Heck yeah, man. He expresses frustration all the time,” the coach told reporters on Tuesday. “He wants to be significant. He wants to be a reason why we are successful. Man, y’all don’t begrudge that. I want guys that want the football. I want guys who want to be central reasons of why we are successful. So, that’s a non-issue, to be quite honest with you.”
Tomlin doesn’t get it. Not even a little. Does he not understand that Pickens is going to go insane Antonio Brown mode if things don’t change? That’s going to happen and Tomlin shows no willingness to change. It’s a ticking time bomb.
The offense stinks. Kenny Pickett is mediocre. The play calling is atrocious. They don’t even try to give Pickens deep shots down the field. They’re boring to watch and feel lost on that side of the ball.
A pebble? No… this isn’t a pebble. This is a serious problem that’s only going to get worse. The problem is that Tomlin doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. This isn’t going to end well.
