Tank for Zion. That’s what every trash NBA team is thinking right now. Zion Williamson is arguably the most talented college basketball player in 20 years. Zion is a freak show. There is no other way to describe him. 6-foot-8, 285 pounds of steel. Humans do not look like that. He’s pretty much a lock to go with the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
New York City radio icon, Mike Francesa, wants no part of Zion Williamson. Go figure:
“Do not take him first. Absolutely not. I mean, I’m being honest with you, there are better players out there. I’m sorry. If you take him first, you’re going to wish you didn’t.”
First, I want to congratulate Mike Francesa for taking advantage of this opportunity. Everyone has been praising Zion Williamson as the next great NBA superstar. Francesa is going with the opposite take because no one thinks Zion will stink. No one. Two possibilities out there. The more likely scenario is the Zion is a stud and Francesa looks stupid. If that’s the case, he gets the attention he wants. If Zion were to somehow flop at the NBA level, Francesa looks like a genius. It’s a win-win battle.
That’s the sad part of the sports world. This guy can just say whatever he wants and get away with it. Either way, he wins because people listen. I will say this guy Zion just blows me away. There will be some games where I look up and I think he had a quiet game and I look at the box score and he dropped monster numbers. Duke Basketball is the hottest ticket item in college or pro. Zion is a big reason why.
