I’m not going anywhere; Mike Evans & the Wolf of Wall Street guy.
Evans, the number one wide receiver available in free agency has come off the board. The Buccaneers and Evans have come to an agreement on a two year extension. The contract is worth $52 million. $35 million of which will be guaranteed.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
It wasn’t exactly a secret that Tampa Bay wanted to keep Evans. General Manager Jason Licht stated as such several times. Especially after the season Evans just had. This was not a player the Bucs could afford to lose. In 2023, the former Texas A&M product notched 79 catches for 1,255 yards with a league-leading 13 touchdowns. He’s been criminally underrated forever. It’s now ten straight 1,000 yard seasons and counting.
Tampa Bay will now turn its attention toward keeping quarterback Baker Mayfield. They have a ton of guys they need to re-sign that will soon hit the open market. Devin White, Lavonte David, and Antoine Winfield just to name a few. After winning the NFC South and a playoff game, it’s not like the Bucs have a high pick during the 2024 NFL Draft at their disposal to replace one of these guys either. How much better will the Bucs really be in 2024? Seems like an important question. Are we sure they should really give Mayfield the bag? That’s next on the dock in Florida.
