Before this piece of news, I didn’t have a strong opinion on Michael Irvin the media analyst. I know he’s had some spirited debates with Stephen A on First Take which is probably a terrible sign but never really paid attention to his takes. This next story is a different ball game. It might be the single dumbest take of 2020. Dumber than the people who drank bleach to prevent coronavirus.
Michael Irvin thinks the Cowboys should purposely overpay Dak Prescott because he was a late round draft pick:
“Dak has been not great, but perfect. Not necessarily in wins and losses, of course. But I’m talking about just the person that he’s been. The kind of investment you want to make, the kind of guy you say ‘yeah, we hit it with this guy. We got him in the fourth round.’ You stole four years, so whatever he gets he deserves because you still owe him back pay,” Irvin said, via the Dallas Morning News.
Dear, Michael. Please go take a timeout. Please get your head examined. This is so, so, so dumb.
From a business standpoint, that’s just horrendous. Why would you overpay a quarterback because they were underpaid? I have news for you, under this CBA, all rookie quarterbacks are underpaid. It’s not Sam Bradford breaking the bank on a rookie contract anymore. It’s why they changed the rule. ALL rookie quarterbacks are underpaid regardless of what round they’re picked.
Secondly, it’s Dak’s fault he went in the 4th round. If Dak didn’t get arrested for a DUI two months before the draft, he probably goes a round or two higher. Sure, he did get acquitted of the charges but he admitted to drinking that night and was pulled over for speeding. That’s on him. Don’t be an idiot two months before the NFL Draft.
Do us all a favor, Michael Irvin. Please shut up. Thanks. For the record, no the Cowboys shouldn’t bend over backward for Dak.
