Micah Parsons And Trevon Diggs Aim To Be An Elite Defensive Duo

The Dallas Cowboys have two young, talented defenders that are leading their defense. Second-year linebacker Micah Parsons and third-year cornerback Trevon Diggs have made a massive impact thus far in their career, but the duo has even higher aspirations. These aspirations include becoming the best defensive duo in the NFL.

“It’s hard to say we’re the best because I know we’re young, and we still make mistakes,” Parsons said, via Jori Epstein of USA Today. “Aaron Donald, the greatest defensive player in history, with Jalen Ramsey.  So I won’t do it yet. But I think we can become them or even better if we learn together and stick together.”

Parsons is realistic about the pairs’ current status in the NFL. It would be tough to make an argument that Parsons and Diggs are better than Donald and Ramsey. With that being said, the pair are already an elite duo, and they have the potential to get even better.

Last season, Parsons and Diggs were both named First-Team AP All-Pros, while being selected for the Pro Bowl. Parsons recorded 84 tackles and 13 sacks, with three forced fumbles. This was enough to be named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and runner-up for AP Defensive Player of the Year. On the other hand, Diggs has superstar potential. He began to realize this potential as he recorded a league-leading eleven interceptions. He returned two of these interceptions for touchdowns.

The Parsons and Diggs duo led the Cowboys defense to a successful 2021 campaign. Per ESPN, the Cowboys allowed 358 points, which was the seventh-fewest in the NFL. Dallas also led the NFL in takeaway and interceptions.

While Parsons and Diggs both have played very well, they are not the best defensive duo in the league — but they know that. However, the pair can eventually reach that status. Regardless, the Cowboys will have elite players on their defense for years to come.

In 2022, the Parsons and Diggs duo will be joined by Demarcus Lawrence, Leighton Vander Esch, Malik Hooker, and more as they look to have another top ten defense.
