Is The Canadian Men’s Basketball Team Actually Legit?
When I think of Canadian sports, hockey is automatically the first to come to mind. Rightfully so, of course. I’m not sure if anybody else has noticed this but Canada is quietly building a hell of a basketball team. Maybe one that’s even good enough to medal at the Olympics.
After their win over the Virgin Islands, team Canada moves to 6-0 during World Cup qualifying. Just look at their team! It’s really actually not bad at all. Nick Nurse is the coach and he’s about as good as it gets. You have a starting five of Jamal Murray, RJ Barrett, Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Olynyk, and Dwight Powell. Don’t forget about Lu Dort, Christ Boucher, Tristan Thompson, Dillon Brooks, Trey Lyles, Cory Joseph, and Shai Gilgeous either.
That’s a damn good basketball team. Maybe it’s not an all-world NBA roster but in terms of Olympic play? Outside of the USA, this Canadian team is right there. Hey, we have seen the USA team play selfish and choke in the past. On any given day, would it be outrageous to see Canada win gold? I never thought I’d see the day but it’s hard to ignore this level of talent.
During the 2020 Olympics, the Australian men’s team won the bronze medal. There is a strong argument to be made that Joe Ingles is the third best player on the team because we know Ben Simmons isn’t showing up. Josh Giddey and then Patty Mills are legit their best players. How do we not like Canada’s chances?
Be very afraid of this Canadian basketball team. If they make some noise during the Olympics, don’t say I didn’t tell you so. This roster is real and maybe the best competition team USA has had in a long time.
