The Miami Dolphins might be one of the most intriguing teams coming into 2023. Despite making the playoffs for the first time since 2016, the end of the season felt like a dud considering the hot start. That’s why Miami went out and made a huge splash in a trade for corner Jalen Ramsey and hired Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator. The Dolphins are in a great position to shock the NFL world, but still need to hammer down some of the details. What are those details? Let’s take a look.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Eichenberg has not faired well. Of everyone on Miami’s offensive line, Eichenberg’s job is the least secure. It’s not like the Miami Dolphins have had a great offensive line over the past few seasons, but Eichenberg has arguably been the weakest link. Wynn might not be much of an upgrade, but he will come in and either force Eichenberg to produce or take his starting job.
This is assuming that Dalvin Cook has not or does not sign by the time training camp starts. Mostert and Wilson had a rare healthy season last year. While either could start as RB1, any slight injuries would open the door for rookie Achane to step in and take over. Devon Achane is another name to bring up here. He brings even more speed and can be utilized as a receiver out of the backfield. If there is no Dalvin Cook, look out for Achane.
This might be odd to include as a position battle to look out for, but considering Tua Tagovailoa‘s injury history, backup QB could be important. Thompson has the edge of already having a year in Mike McDaniel’s system, but White did a fairly good job the past two seasons as a backup with the Jets. Hopefully for Miami, neither of their names will be called for significant playing time.
Kohou burst onto the scene last year as an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M-Commerce. While Kohou was graded as one of the best rookie corners in the league, I expect him to take an even bigger step in a Fangio defense. Kohou will have an easy job with Ramsey and Xavian Howard taking major assignments on the outside.
The Miami Dolphins did not bring in many rookies this season. As previously stated, Achane has a great opportunity to get touches on this team. Even if Cook comes to Miami, Achane can take the RB2 spot and still see significant playing time. Miami will want to protect their injury-prone running backs and potentially one that asks for a good chunk of money. Everyone on the Achane train.
Ekuzkanma spent pretty much all last season injured, but he shined in camp and preseason. There’s a lot of potential WR3 on this team and it’s hard figuring out who could be another decent scorer. Most of your fantasy scoring will come from Tua, Jaylen, and Tyreek, and split between two RBs. If Ekuzkanma can be healthy, his 6’2 frame and jumping ability make him a prime candidate to take some of the Mike Gesicki’s red zone TDs.
