Maybe Anthony Richardson Will Get In Shape After Being Benched

The Colts finally did the right thing and benched Anthony Richardson. It’s not arguable. When a quarterback completes 44% of his throws, the guy is totally unplayable. I just want to know if this will serve as a wake up call for Richardson because if we’re being truthful about it… he hasn’t improved a lick since draft day.

What does Richardson do well right now? He’s really good at running into a brick wall and throwing the ball to the other team. He throws the ball to the other team more than his own team. All of these young quarterbacks out there. You can see the progression with all of them on a week-by-week basis. Except for Richardson who doesn’t look like he’s progressed at all.

In fairness, it’s hard to progress when you don’t work hard enough. It’s one thing that Richardson sucks. It’s another that he’s out of shape and lacks self-awareness.

We’re talking about a guy who subbed himself out of a game because he was “tired”

A: Talk about a lack of self-awareness. Even if that was the case, how stupid do you have to be to admit that?

B: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quarterback sub himself out of a game for being tired. If Richardson is too tired to play, the guy deserves to be on the bench.

I just don’t know why anybody is surprised. Outside of one game against Utah, the guy was a disaster in college too. What’s worse is it doesn’t appear that he’s too bright either. Now is the chance for Richardson to get his act together. Watch a real pro in Flacco go about the way he handles his business. Maybe start by getting in shape so you don’t have to sub yourself out of a game.

Every player in that Colts locker room knows the truth. Joe Flacco gives them the best chance to win. It’s one thing to go through lumps with a young quarterback. It’s another to go through the dark growing pains with a guy who isn’t in shape.
