Max Comtois: Does He Suck Or Should We Blame The Ducks?

Does Max Comtois suck or should we blame the Ducks? We’re about to find out! In case you missed it, Comtois signed a PTO with the Vegas Golden Knights. After Vegas lost Reilly Smith, they need to find a new winger to replace him. Comtois is a possible candidate to do just that.

I guess I should phrase it as was given a chance. It’s been reported that Comtois failed to impress in camp. Apparently, the team viewed youngsters Paul Cotter and Pavel Dorofeyev as superior options.

Bruce Cassidy said Max Comtois was released from his PTO yesterday without a contract.

He said they were very happy with how Cotter and Dorofeyev performed in camp and preseason and “there are only so many spots.”

I did a post earlier this week about Cotter. He’s a big body that should be able to bang and get to the front of the net. The problem is that was Comtois’ game. I guess it’s not a problem depending on your viewpoint. It’s a great thing that the young guys look good. It’s also a bad thing that Vegas didn’t deem Comtois as useful on a win now team. Especially given the fact that Comtois is supposed to be in the prime of his career.

Maybe Comtois just sucks. The Ducks are terrible but it’s hard to say they’re totally at fault here if the guy couldn’t find a real contract. What does the guy do from here? Outside of one fluke season in 2020, he’s been mostly terrible. Comtois was a -20 notching 19 points in 64 games a season ago. At this point, there might not be a future for Comtois at the NHL level.
