Matt Judon finally got his money. Judon has been the most important pass rusher in Baltimore since Terrell Suggs retired and Za’Darius Smith skipped town. Now, Judon gets paid following in that Ravens tradition. Judon signs a free agent deal with the Patriots.
The news was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
Tom Peliserro of NFL Network later added the contract details. The $56 million for Judon is a MASSIVE contract.
Judon, 28, has been a success story in the NFL. Baltimore found themselves a gem when they drafted him out of Grand Valley State in the 5th round of the 2016 NFL Draft. After being hit with the franchise tag a year ago, Judon now gets his long term security.
Baltimore needs to have a contingency plan. They did bring back Pernell McPhee but Yannick Ngakoue is also a free agent. Tough to replace those two in one offseason. Tyus Bowser will need to step up and become that dude in 2021.
The Patriots have been big time spenders. It’s rare New England burns through money this quick. It reminds me of when the Patriots snagged Adalius Thomas from Baltimore. New England also added Jonnu Smith to a mega contract earlier today.
New England entered the offseason with buckets of cash and have not wasted any time using it. Cam Newton also returned to the fold and will have more help to work with in 2021.
