Marty Hurney Calls Teddy Bridgewater A Winner

I think the win-loss record for quarterbacks often gets overblown. When it comes to Teddy Bridgewater, I think that it means something. Bridgewater is 22-12 as a starting quarterback. While Bridgewater never has put up flashy numbers but the fact of the matter is that he’s a winner. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney spoke about what Teddy Bridgewater brings to the table. Being a winner is one of those traits.

“He’s a very talented quarterback,” Hurney said of Bridgewater, via Bill Voth of the team website. “I’ve always liked him. He’s got great feet in the pocket. I think he’s got good vision, a quick release. He’s got good accuracy.

“I think everybody you talk to, they talked about his leadership skills, and he’s got familiarity with [offensive coordinator] Joe Brady’s system since Joe was down there in New Orleans with him. He’s certainly a guy who’s overcome adversity and has, really if you look at it, he’s won everywhere he’s been, so we thought he’d be a good fit for us.”

Bridgewater, 27, certainly raised his stock after going 5-0 with the Saints last year. I actually thought New Orleans was unfair to him. How do you bench a guy that hasn’t lost? The former first round pick from Louisville signed a three-year, $63 million deal with Carolina this offseason. $30 million of which is guaranteed. Bridgewater has come a long way since he almost lost his leg in a practice with the Vikings just a few years ago.

The Panthers are banking on Bridgewater keeping them in every game. Teddy is an accurate quarterback that takes care of the football. He completed nearly 68 percent of his throws this past year. Carolina is all in on Teddy Bridgewater. Marty Hurney feels like he found the right guy because Teddy Bridgewater finds a way to win. It’s hard to argue with him.
