MarShawn Lloyd 2024 NFL Draft Profile

The 2024 NFL Draft profiles are flying at you, and we are going to keep the momentum going here with the draft profile of MarShawn Lloyd. I got the chance to watch Lloyd both on TV as a USC fan, but also at the Senior Bowl this year. Lloyd has been a trendy name at the top of some people’s running back rankings entering the draft, but what does the profile look like? Let’s talk about it.

I’ll be honest: the South Carolina tape kind of pops more than his USC stuff. Lloyd averaged more yards per carry for the Trojans, but something in those South Carolina clips felt like it showed more of his true potential. Lloyd only rushed for 801 yards and 10 touchdowns over two seasons in the SEC and finished with 820 and nine touchdowns this past season.

I get the hype surrounding MarShawn Lloyd. I thought he was one of the better running backs in Mobile and he had a fine combine. Lloyd has really nice feet (pause) and thick legs (double pause), giving him a solid base to get through arm tackles with ease. Feels like more of a one-cut back who you can count on to make the right decision behind the line of scrimmage. Lloyd might not be a true home-run hitter, but he has solid burst and invites contact in the second level.

One area MarShawn Lloyd really lacks is in pass protection. In today’s NFL, that is more of a valuable commodity to have than in years past. He also isn’t a great pass catcher out of the backfield, so that significantly limits some of his true potential in the NFL. Ball security was another major thing that kept popping up, especially on his USC tape from a year ago. Can he stay healthy, too, is another concern of mine.

I could find a spot on my roster for Lloyd. If he was on the board in the later part of the fourth round, I could use a pick on him. There are a few running backs I like more, but if I were a needy team in search of someone who could be a part of my rotation, I would feel pretty good about adding him to the team. I don’t think you’ll get a full-time starter out of him, but he would make a nice piece to a team
