Mark Stone: Haters Want To See Golden Knights ‘Crash And Burn’

Before I begin, shoutout to Gary Lawless who does a great job covering the Golden Knights for their own official website. He recently sat down with Captain Mark Stone in a recent interview that everyone can see here. A number of topics were brought up including the fact that the team has built up an entire fan base of haters that actively root to watch them fail. All of those people hate the team because they’re uneducated but that’s a topic for another day. But they’re also the most winningest franchise in the history of the NHL as a start-up team so there’s that too.

Here’s what Stone had to say about the haters:

“As I’m older, I have realized that people are going to put a bull’s-eye on our back because they want to see us fail,” Stone told team reporter Gary Lawless.

“We haven’t failed too much in our history. People want to see the Golden Knights crash and burn. But … I think the foundation we built doesn’t really allow for that to happen. So, I’m feeling confident. I think the team is excited to get back. We definitely have that chip on our shoulder. A lot of people in our industry don’t believe that we can get back to the team that we know we are, but time will tell. We still believe that we’re one of the teams that is going to training camp with the chance to win the Stanley Cup.”

I love this response from Stone. I hope they all have the eye of the tiger. I think Lawless said in best in a recent article. Be very careful about sleeping on this team. They’re going to be really, really good again and you’re insane if you think otherwise. They’re dominant in the middle and on the blue line. Plus, having one of the best coaches in the NHL sure helps. If they get one leap from one of these young wingers (Brisson, Holtz, Dorofeyev, etc) they have a shot to win the Cup for the second time in three years.
