Eagles and Marcus Mariota agree to a one-year deal for the veteran QB

Former Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has found himself a new home. He will be signing a one-year deal with the Eagles for $5 million. His contract has a maximum value of $8 million, according to Adam Schefter.

After five seasons with the Titans, two years with the Raiders, and a stop in Atlanta. Mariota is now a Philadelphia Eagles. Mariota will be backing up MVP candidate QB Jalen Hurts. In his last and only season as an Atlanta Falcons, Mariota had an up-and-down season.

The Tennessee Titans drafted Mariota 2nd overall in the 2015 NFL draft. Mariota hasn’t found much success in his young career in the NFL as the young mobile QB hasn’t posted over 30 touchdowns in a single season. As a starter, Mariota has reached the playoffs only once in 2017. He later reached them as a backup for the Titans in 2019 when Ryan Tannehill started.

In only 13 games played, Mariota had around 2,600 total yards. He added around 2,200 passing yards and 400 yards with his legs. On top of the yardage, Mariota had a total of 19 touchdowns. 15 passing and four rushing touchdowns. Even with Mariota’s offensive production, he gave the ball away a lot. In the 2022-23 season, Mariota had 14 total turnovers. He had nine interceptions and five fumbles. He also had a completion percentage of 61.3%.

Mariota will become a good backup for Jalen Hurts on the Eagles. He will join the Eagles in hopes of returning to the Super Bowl with them. With Hurts earning a new deal in the future, it will be likely Mariota won’t touch the field next season.
