Marc-Edouard Vlasic Absolutely Sucks
We knew coming into the year that the San Jose Sharks were going to suck (link to season preview). However, I’m not sure the casual fan understands quite how bad this team is. Mostly because they have a few players on their team that are totally unplayable. I’m just going to go out on a limb and say something. Marc-Edouard Vlasic absolutely sucks to the point where I think he may be the single worst asset in the entire league.
Vlasic, 36, is under contract for two more seasons after this one while carrying an AAV of $7 million. I genuinely don’t think you can find a worse contract in the league. Below just shows a brief little video of his performance last night against the Bruins. It’s as ugly as it gets and is pretty on par with what you get every night.
Vlasic hasn’t always been terrible but he’s been pretty brutal for the last few years. Through three games this year, Vlasic sports a CF% of 28. Words can’t properly describe how terrible that is. He’s a -36 over the last two years. Vlasic is so unplayable that his ice time is all the way down to 11:20. Even as a rookie he played 22 minutes per night.
Vlasic isn’t doing anything right now other than helping them tank. My question is are they actually going to trot this guy out there every night until the contract runs out? At some point don’t you have to consider a buyout? Aren’t you better served trying to play a young guy and providing an opportunity to someone who can help you when it’s time to turn the corner? Does Mike Grier even watch his hockey team? Is he aware this is going on?
All valid questions. Long story short; if you want to watch some really bad hockey… just turn on a Sharks game and watch number 44. Vlasic is vomit level terrible.
