Manchester United Has Found Someone New For The Remainder Of The Season

Manchester United has reportedly reached terms with a new interim manager for the rest of the 2021-2022 season. According to The Athletic, former RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick is signing a 6-month contract with the Red Devils. What makes this deal particularly interesting is what will happen after this season. Rangnick is set to remain in a consultancy role at the club after his managerial contract runs out. Fans are particularly happy as it shows a change in direction from ownership. There were more than a few previous errors the United hierarchy has made when it comes to coaches. With an easier Premier League schedule and fixtures set in both the Champions League knockouts and FA Cup, Rangnick will have many opportunities to show why he was the right hire.

Replacing Ole

When news broke about the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, fans were quick to speculate who would replace the Norweigan. Two names at the top of the fans’ list were Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane. However, it was not meant to be. According to reports, Zidane will only coach the French National Team, and not United or PSG. Paris-Saint Germain would not let the Argentine go without a proper replacement in play. Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag was also admired by many. Despite that, he seems content to coach Ajax until at least the end of the season.

Enter Ralf Rangnick. He was willing to step down from his role at Lokomotiv Moscow to come to England, and that looks to be exactly what will happen. However, work permit issues mean that he will not take charge during United’s big match against Chelsea this weekend. That could be Michael Carrick’s final game as caretaker manager, after a 2-0 victory over Villareal in the Champions League. Many supporters are buzzing as it appears to be a very good hire for the short term, while the potential for an excellent long-term hire is still very much in play.
