Manchester City Has Turned Their Gaze Toward Harry Kane

Manchester City, the 2021 Premier League Champion, is looking to make some serious upgrades in the summer window. With City legend Sergio Aguero leaving for Barcelona on a free transfer earlier this month, reports are now surfacing that Pep Guardiola and the club are preparing to offer rivals Tottenham Hotspur £100 million to sign star striker Harry Kane. England’s #9 is becoming publicly unhappy with his situation in North London and would like a new club. Many fans might be upset since the rich would become richer if Kane ended up with Manchester City, but the fit between player and club is very real. Guardiola has installed a host of creators in his title-winning setup and is a goalscorer away from beginning a period of unrivaled domestic and European dominance.

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy remains unwilling to broker a deal for Kane, but it is hard to blame Kane for wanting out considering Tottenham’s inability to find a new manager. He just had a historic season, leading the Premier League in both goals and assists, but the team ended their season with a seventh-place finish. Jose Mourinho was certainly the wrong manager for Spurs, but the embarrassing lack of efficiency on the club’s part for finding a replacement must be making Kane upset. Tottenham may also choose to hold Kane until his value increases even further, as Levy could even demand more than £150 million if England has a good tournament at the Euros. Kane just had arguably the greatest individual season of his career and he is prone to injury, so Levy should just accept Tottenham’s fate and part ways with his prized asset. Waiting until future windows will only drive down Kane’s value, considering that he has three years remaining on his current contract with Spurs. It would be a tough pill to swallow for all Spurs supporters, but selling Kane is the most logical decision at the moment. Even though Manchester City’s rivals are looking to strengthen as well, Guardiola is looking to remain head and shoulders above the rest of the Premier League.
