Malaki Starks is a damn stud and if you don’t know it already, you will by the end of this post. Let’s just get into it because there’s so much to talk about with the Georgia safety. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on Starks!
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 5, Week 14, Conference Championships, Sugar Bowl
Starks, 21, was a five-star prospect coming out of the state of Georgia. During the 2022 cycle, Starks was the 4th ranked overall player and the number one-ranked athlete in the country. The Jefferson, Georgia native was a three year starter for the Dawgs and made an impact right away as a freshman. If you remotely pay attention to college football, you are well aware that Starks has been that dude pretty much since day one of stepping on campus.
Even if you weren’t familiar with Starks, if you watched the Combine, all of the boxes were checked there. The Georgia safety was the best DB to compete in the events and it really wasn’t close. The 4.50 time isn’t blazing, but his play speed on the GPS meter was number one in every single on-field drill. The guy was a clinic from start to finish and was one of the biggest winners at the event.
I don’t want to sound like I’m blowing the guy but this one is just really easy to me. A five year old can figure out Starks is a premier talent. This is available for you in the Stock Report notes a at the top but the interception against Clemson in the season opener was just ridiculous. Again, he’s been doing stuff like this since he was a freshman. It’s a spitting image of the interception he made against Oregon in his first collegiate game.
Starks led the team with 77 tackles this past year and has six career interceptions. He sort of looks like Minkah Fitzpatrick with better ball skills. It’s that same Brian Branch, but with more size and ability to be a versatile swiss army knife. The guy can play outside corner if you want him to, and was asked several times to cover guys in nickel situations. The guy is an incredibly smart football player with plus range and ball skills. He had 271 snaps as a slot corner this year and can take guys out in that role too beyond just being a normal free safety.
He checks in at 6-foot-1, 197, and just feels like an easy player to project forward. No hiccups in the pure movement skills. Able to sink his hips and fire in short area. High pointed everything at the Combine and that was seen during the games over and over again. Frankly, I think you snort meth if you think there’s a better overall safety in this class.
I don’t just have a first round grade on Malaki Starks. The Georgia safety should probably be viewed as one of the top 5-10 overall players in the draft. I’m not telling you that he’s Ed Reed, but he’s probably the closest thing to him since.
