Major WWE Title Unification Bout In The Works — Rumor

WWE may be unifying titles in the company, which is somewhat rare because it’s tricky to be in a position to do that. To unify them, you have to have one person hold two different titles — a rare occurrence. Although WWE just did it with Roman Reigns and the WWE and Universal title, prior to that the company hasn’t done it in some time. However, they may be unifying two titles on two different brands.

One Set Of Tag Titles

According to Xero News, WWE reportedly may unify the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. The match being discussed is Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler versus Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre, the latter two winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships in January.

NXT may not have Women's Tag Champions going forward.

Rousey/Baszler vs. Alba/Isla in Unification had been discussed internally, with the endgame being one set of Women Tag Titles, potentially defended across all 3 brands rather than 2 sets of titles.

There have been discussions for the two teams to face each other and unify the titles. However, once they are unified, the reported plan is to have them be defended on all three shows, NXT, Raw, and SmackDown.

WWE introduced the Women’s Tag Team Championships in 2019. Since then, there have been 19 different teams to hold the tag titles. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships have always been one of the issues with the company because many fans feel that they have been used as props and have no meaning or prestige in them. They introduced the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships in 2021. There have been 13 different teams to hold the titles in NXT.

The problem is that Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre are now on the WWE main roster. After they were drafted, they defended the titles against Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. Fyre and Dawn ended up winning, but Chance and Carter were also drafted to the main roster, so there have been some issues revolving around both sets of titles. Maybe unifying them is the best option currently.
