UFC 278 (link to our site predictions) will go down as one of my favorite cards I’ve ever watched. The heroics of Luke Rockhold even in a losing effort has a lot to do with that. Rockhold has accomplished a ton during his tenure in the UFC. If there was any doubt before, there isn’t now. Rockhold is officially a legend after his performance at UFC 278. Case closed.
Luke Rockhold gave it all he had. It was actually incredible to watch. The dude literally had his hands on his knees in the middle of the fight. That man was GASSED by the second round. 37-years-old fighting in altitude after taking multiple years off from the sport. IT was just a marvelous performance even in defeat.
There were just so many hilarious moments in that fight. Rockhold would throw a punch every 45 seconds followed by a “F*ck You”. Just pure entertainment. The marque moment of the fight came in the final seconds. Rockhold got takedown after a poor effort himself. Somehow, he managed to reverse Paulo Costa with a few seconds to go. There are no words to properly describe what Rockhold did so I’m just going to plop the video below.
That moment will never die. It’s one of the funniest things that’s ever happened in UFC history. Credit to Rockhold for this. Win, lose, or draw, that was awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this move before but I love it. Oh, I’m losing the fight but have blood pouring all over my face? Let me rub that shit on you too. What a move!
Luke Rockhold just needs to announce his retirement because he can’t top what just happened at UFC 278. Rockhold may not have gone out on top but that man deserves respect today and that’s all you can really ask for as a MMA fighter.
Side Note: Not sure I love this move by our social media department. Edwards totally quit last night and the announcers had every reason to suggest that was the case. Edwards loses that fight 999 times out of 1,000 if you restart that 5th round. The UFC booth of Jon Anik, Joe Rogan, and Daniel Cormier is about as good as it gets in any sport. Michael Bisping is probably better than Cormier but that’s beside the point. The eyes tell the story. Edwards quit last night but found a way to win. Credit to him but let’s not try to act like that wasn’t the case.
