It’s a sad, sad day for Notre Dame. Brian Kelly is leaving and is expected to become the next head football coach at LSU. Ed Orgeron will depart the program paving the way for Kelly to take the reigns. The SEC just become ever MORE of a gauntlet than it already was.
The news was first reported by Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports:
This should be considered a home run hire for the Tigers’ program. Kelly has more wins than any other coach in the history of the Notre Dame program. Kelly has a proven winning track record going 34-6 at Cincinnati and 92-39 at Notre Dame. Kelly has won at least 10 games five years in a row with the Irish which is no small feat and considerably better than any other coach at Notre Dame since I’ve been alive.
The SEC itself is going to be a tough challenge but LSU is a great job. Ed Orgeron and Les Miles won National Championships there and aren’t close to the coach that Kelly is. National Championship or bust is a fair goal at a program like this. There is no excuse to fail at recruiting in this state either.
What an incredible week it has been for the sport. We’re only a day removed from Lincoln Riley being named the head coach at USC. College football is better when USC and LSU are at the top of the sport.
