Lonzo Ball: Is He Good Or Not?

So, is Lonzo Ball good? Or does he suck? The answer to both of these questions is: Yes. I’m telling you, it makes sense but it doesn’t at the same time. Whenever I watch Lonzo Ball play, it is hit or miss to where he amazes me or disappoints me. It seems like he is a very streaky player. Meaning if he is on, he’s gonna ball out for a couple of games. If he’s off, he’s gonna have a bad streak of games. He might be the streakiest player in the NBA if we are being honest with ourselves.

Here’s an example: From 12/29/2019 to 1/6/20, a span of 4 games, he had a triple-double against Houston, and 20+ points in the other games. He had 10 assists twice and more than 5 assists in the other games. He was really stellar in those games. But other times he has just a bad streak of games and it makes him look like a bust. From 12/07/2019 to 12/15/2019, a span of 5 games, he played absolutely horrible. He scored 2 points in one game, 6 points in 3 games and 9 points in one game. He didn’t get more than 6 assists in those games.

This season he is averaging 12.1 PPG on 40.6% shooting, 5.8 APG, and 5.4 RPG. His numbers fluctuate so much that this is what his average comes out too. His numbers for assists per game and rebounds per game are a little bit more consistent. However, his numbers for points have an equal chance of having 2 points or 20 points and everything in between.

The case of Lonzo Ball is very intriguing. Is he good or is he not? Eh. Does he need more time? Probably. If he can have more of those 20 points games, that would help his case. I wouldn’t say Lonzo Ball is a bust, however, he didn’t deserve to be 2nd overall in the draft. I will always give Lavar Ball credit for being a marketing genius to get Lonzo drafted that high. Maybe over time, he will be worthy of being that 2nd overall pick. People thought he had a chance at Most Improved Player this year. He just needs to be consistent at that high level of play that he seems like he is able to play at.
