Linus Ullmark: Getting traded has ‘crossed my mind’
After being in trade rumors only a few months prior, Linus Ullmark has admitted that getting traded has crossed his mind.
“It’s crossed my mind, yeah,” Ullmark said, according to the Boston Globe. “I mean, I’m not going to lie, that’s the business part of it. That’s what we live in.”
Ullmark recently received the Vezina Trophy, the award that honors the best goaltender in the league. Pretty impressive, but on the other side of things, that could be the last time he gets to host a trophy with the Boston Bruins.
The Swedish native put up one of the most impressive stat lines the NHL has ever seen this past season. With a record of 40-6-1, Ullmark easily took home the Vezina this season, leaving all others in the dust. Out of all 40 wins, two were shutouts. He also added on an impressive goals against average of 1.89 and save percentage of almost .940.
Not only did Ullmark’s goaltending heroics help lead the Bruins to the best record in NHL history, but so too did Jeremy Swayman.
In his third year in the league, Swayman became quite the one-two punch combo with Ullmark for the Bruins. In 2022-23, the 24-year-old achieved 24 wins, a .920 save percentage, and just under a 2.27 goals against average. Safe to say, Swayman and Ullmark are quite the duo.
“When you have two goalies that are so close when it comes to stat-wise, there’s got to be some changes, probably,” Ullmark said, via the Boston Globe. “And hopefully, like I think, for both of us, that we both want to be together and we want to stay in Boston because that’s where we thrive and you see the success that we’ve had and we’ve just got see, you know. There’s a personal side to it and there’s a business side to it and you’ve got to honor it. That’s just how being a professional hockey player is.”
If the Bruins move Ullmark, he has some leeway. The Swedish goaltenders contract shifts from a no-movement to a 16-team no-trade clause on July 1.
