Leon Draisaitl Does Not Get Enough Love

Leon Draisaitl is an Absolutely Insane Player

Leon Draisaitl is a special player. He and Connor McDavid are the two reasons why people watch the Edmonton Oilers these days. However, there’s something I’ve had on my mind. What if Draisaitl played on a different team? If he was off the Oilers, I think the hockey community would see him in a completely different light. Rather than being a tier below McDavid, he would be on even standing with the likes of Nathan MacKinnon and others. I truly stand by that. Of course, McDavid is already a Hall of Famer, but Draisaitl is easily the greatest German to ever play hockey.

Ridiculous Stuff

Looking at the Oilers is difficult. Their top-end talent is exactly that, at the top of the sport. Adding Evander Kane helped a lot this past postseason. But the depth issue is quite concerning. Look at how they fared against the Avalanche, for example. Despite this, they simply could always have a chance to win it all. McDavid keeps their foot in the door, but Draisaitl does, too. If he’s not around, then the Edmonton Oilers will be doomed to a fate of being a what-if team. What if McDavid ever got help? Well, he does. Just look at this stuff from Draisaitl:

He’s also being paid an absolute bargain of a deal. $8.5 million a year for routinely scoring 100+ points a season is ludicrous. People are speculating that he can join Auston Matthews in the 60-goal club. When I watch him, I get shocked that he only has one Hart Trophy — his talent is off the charts. I understand the argument that without McDavid he’s not as good. But if you ask me, his point total would probably be in the 90’s instead of the 110 he posted this year. Like JFresh tells us, he does it all on the offensive end. And at 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds, he’s not a lightweight.

Just My Two Cents

Connor McDavid is the closest thing I have ever seen to Wayne Gretzky. You can make fun of me for being young. But Leon Draisaitl is not a Robin to his Batman. I’ll reconsider once McDavid hits 50 or more goals. The German is a 1b to McDavid’s 1a. Again, if Draisaitl was playing somewhere like Montreal, I think we would be having completely different conversations about him. One thing is for sure, though: I can’t wait to see them back on the ice next month.
