There has been a huge problem with NBA officiating in recent years. These issues consist of missing calls, calling the game too soft and handing out technicals like candy.
However, there is a new apparent issue this season: The NBA is not calling fouls for LeBron James. There is a chance that a lot of people agree with that statement, as James is the most popular player in the NBA. Also, it seems like the Los Angeles Lakers agree because they contacted the league earlier this week over these missed calls.
James followed up about these missed calls on Twitter.
The game isn’t won or lost in the last 2 mins! If you know the game things happen throughout the 1st, 2nd. 3rd and first 10 mins of 4th that has MAJOR impact on outcomes. https://t.co/ReW6r43Wax

I will not sit here and act like James does not get abused at times. He has been dominant his whole career and sometimes that means he does not get help from the officials. When a player is that good, they can be neglected because they are expected to be better than their opponents.
However, there are benefits because sometimes great players get those “superstar” calls. James gets his fair share of calls especially when he was flopping non-stop with the Miami Heat. James’ treatment by the refs has been controversial his whole career; there are NBA fans who think he gets too many foul calls and some who think he does not get nearly enough.
Ultimately, the Lakers had to speak to the league because they had to protect their franchise superstar. LeBron James is in his 21st season, so the Lakers have to fight for him about these things. One thing is certain this is not the last time people will hear about James and foul calls.
Firstly, the Lakers have only played seven games this season, so the possible lack of foul calls might be insignificant by the end of the season. James is only attempting 5.6 free throws per game, which would be the lowest of his career. He has not changed his game he is still a bully in the paint and drives to the rim violently, though he tends to save a lot of these plays for the fourth quarter nowadays.
On the other hand, James has never shot a lot of free throws in Los Angeles. He’s averaged six free-throw attempts over the last two seasons and has only averaged north of 6.1 free-throw attempts once since joining the Lakers prior to the 2018-19 season.
However, his three-pointers have increased significantly since he has been a Laker. Also, his minutes have been lower in Los Angeles; this season he currently has one of the lowest usage rates in his career. Now, I say all of this to say there are reasons he is not shooting a lot of free throws.
Obviously, the Lakers and James feel differently about the situation. Ultimately, I am certain that some missed calls against him happen every single game but that is no different than any other star.
