Leafs Rule Out John Klingberg For Season After Undergoing Hip Surgery
John Klingberg sucks. The smart people knew that already. I don’t know what the Leafs were thinking when they signed him but they won’t have to worry about it anymore.
Klingberg was totally unplayable and it’s not officially official that Klingberg won’t play another game for the Leafs this season. Toronto has announced that Klingberg will undergo hip surgery which will end his season.
“It’s safe to say five to six months,” Trelving said of how long Klingberg’s recovery will take.
Klingberg, 31, was awful for Toronto. The former Stars and Ducks blue liner notched five assists and no goals in 14 games played. That, however, doesn’t really tell the full story. Klingberg is the worst defensive defenseman in the entire league. Literally the worst. That 0% WAR for defense tells a lot of the story.
If you need more evidence, how do you feel about this? Yeah… it’s that bad.
The positive for the Leafs is the fact that Klingberg’s money will shift to LTIR. His $4,15 AAV will no longer count against the cap now that he’s been ruled out for the season. It feels likely that Toronto will use that money to sure up the defense. Maybe Chris Tanev? Treliving, of course, has that connection during his time running the Flames. Toronto surely makes a lot of sense and will be looking to add a defenseman one way or another. Especially now that Klingberg is officially done.
