Kyler Murray Unlikely To Play During 2023-24 NFL Season?

We may have seen the last of Kyler Murray in an Arizona Cardinals uniform. Are the Cardinals really thinking about sitting Murray for the entire 2023-24 NFL Season? The vibes are certainly trending that way.

As of right now, Murray is still on the PUP list. That means he’s out for at least the first four games of the season. Who knows if he’s even healthy enough to play after that? Murray is still coming off a pretty serious knee injury. Nobody expects this Cardinals team to be good either. If Arizona is 0-4, they probably want to start the tank job anyway.

Arizona did trade for Josh Dobbs too. It’s Dobbs and rookie Clayton Tune battling for the job there. Conventional wisdom would suggest that Dobbs gets the job and then it’s handed over to Tune once the season is officially a lost cause.

Lombardi also seems to indicate that a trade could be on the horizon. With Arizona picking up a chunk of the tab owed to Kyler, a trade midseason certainly seems possible. It also might be Kyler’s best chance to get back on the field. Paying him those injury guarantees feels like a non-starter for this team.

Do the Cardinals even deserve Caleb Williams? They botched Josh Rosen. They botched Kyler Murray. Maybe the NFL should think about putting that lottery system in place so that Arizona can’t have the USC quarterback. Food for thought.
