This upcoming offseason is a huge turning point for the Lakers franchise. Los Angeles is in the hunt for two max players this offseason but their rebuild will really only matter if the young players already on the roster turn into studs. Lonzo Ball is the catalyst for that movement and is a mission to turn himself into a great player. He has built a great rapport with teammate Kyle Kuzma where the two appear to be working hard to improve this offseason.
Kuzma talked to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN about the Lakers rookie point guard:
“Consistency in the weight room, that is the biggest thing,” Kuzma said on Tuesday of what he has seen out of Ball this offseason so far. “He has been in there pretty much every day I have been in here around this time. You can tell he is taking the weight room a lot more serious and that is going to help him by allowing him to recover faster and hopefully next year be on the court more because of that weight room.”
I can speak from experience how important weight lifting was for my wrestling career. I would not have been the same guy that I am without it. Lifting not only helps me from a physical aspect but also a mental one as well. While Lonzo Ball has mainly been in the news for all the wrong reasons, it’s good to see that the guy behind the Lakers jersey is actually putting the work in to be a good player.
The expectations are for Ball to be the Lakers franchise point guard after being selected 2nd overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. Next time he might want to take Brandon Ingram with him to the gym.
