Ken Holland was fired by the Oilers and was eventually replaced by Stan Bowman. The Kings parted ways with Rob Blake and decided to hire the guy who ran their team they can’t beat in the first round of the playoffs.
Yes, that’s right. It’s time for Holland to get his revenge? He’s the new man in change of the LA Kings.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to mention that this news was coming:
Holland, 69, did a great job running the Red Wings. I guess you can’t take that away from him, and why he’s getting another chance. Holland served as the Executive Vice President and general manager of the Red Wings from 1997 through 2019. Detroit won four Stanley Cups during that window.
It’s worth noting that Kings president Luc Robitaille played for Holland’s Red Wings in 2001-03. I’m sure there is a connection there and a big reason why he got the job. I’m not sure what Holland is planning on the coaching front, but I’d argue bringing back Jim Hiller has to be considered a non-starter based on the nonsense that happened this postseason.
However, I’d argue he was total garbage during his time running the Oilers. There’s no way around it. The guy was the equivalent of being drunk on the job and needed his keys taken away. If Holland runs the Kings the way he did so with the Oilers, Edmonton will continue to dance on their grave year after year in the postseason.
