Kicker Mason Crosby Officially Enters Retirement

Mason Crosby has announced his retirement from the NFL. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The former Colorado kicker burst into the scene as a rookie leading the league with 39 field goal attempts. He showed some promise as a rookie kicker which is needed because the position has such a short leash in the NFL.

The next season Aaron Rodgers took over at quarterback and the Packers became one of the most high-powered offenses over the next decade. After not playing in 2024, Mason Crosby will be remembered as the kicker for those exciting Green Bay Packers teams.

Crosby had a legendary career playing 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. He is the all-time leading points scorer in the franchise and he holds the record for the most field goals and extra points made. Crosby made 395 field goals and 739 extra points in his career in Green Bay. Finally, in 16 years with the Packers, he finished with an 81.4 field goal percentage and 97.2 extra point percentage.

It is hard to have a long career in the NFL but good kickers can have decade-long careers due to the lighter physical demand on the body. However, kickers are easily replaceable, and missing a kick or two could get a player cut instantly. Also, they get a lot of pressure from fans as game-winning kicks can make them the hero or the villain.

Mason Crosby’s Legacy

Luckily, Mason Crosby had a lot more great moments than bad. He was one of the most reliable kickers in the league at one point. At the height of those 2010s Packers teams, it seemed like Rodgers would find a way to put together a game-winning drive and Crosby would ice the game with a kick. Now, Mason Crosby will enter retirement after a great 17-year NFL career.
