Kevin Garnett is the lastest NBA player to rip into Kyrie Irving. The breakup between Kyrie Irving and the Celtics was bad. But like all breakups, sometimes the things leading up to it are worse. Kevin Garnett says that Kyrie Irving couldn’t handle it. As reported by New York Daily News:
“Boston’s a tough town, dawg. You have to have some major cojones to be there,” Garnett said. “You got to want that. The people want it for you. That’s why Paul (Pierce) is perfect for it. Paul wants the shot every time. Like, ‘You’re 0-for-14.’ And he’s like, ‘I know, but they WANT it.’”
It’s not news that Boston is a tough town to play in. Their fans can be raunchy and they demand excellence every year. If they don’t get that excellence, they’re coming for your throat. It’s also not news that Kyrie Irving doesn’t have the most stable minds. They have been reports of mood swings, isolation, and overall attitude. Mix that with hecklers from your own fanbase screaming at you, it’s not a good combination if you don’t have the mental toughness to withstand it.
Kevin Garnett says you have to have major cojones to play there and he’s absolutely right. He never said that Kyrie Irving wasn’t a talented player, hell, you must be stupid to think that. But being able to take the mental adversity of some fan bases. Teams like Boston, the Lakers, Nets, and Knicks will rip into you on any given night. It’s funny because he plays for the Nets now, and I’m sure they’ll rip into him just like Celtics fans, just maybe not as bad. I’m sure the Celtics will talk about Kyrie Irving like the ex that cheated on them with their brother. Oh well, as long as it is not my problem.
