A fourth film in the current rendition of Marvel’s Spider-Man movies has officially started the process of being written, according to Marvel president Kevin Feige in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
While it’s no surprise that another Spider-Man film was coming, fans were perplexed at the lack of leading actor Tom Holland’s status within the MCU going forward, especially considering his comments on wanting to take a break from acting.
Regardless, the writing for the next film has gone ahead anyways. And while Feige was unwilling to go into many details about the next film, he did have this to say.
“All I will say is that we have the story,” Feige said. “We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.”
Marvel’s latest movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is the movie slated to be the start of the cinematic universe’s Phase 5. However, in some ways, the phase has already gotten off to a rough start, with poor critic reviews according to Rotten Tomatoes.
While Spider-Man: No Way Home, was arguably Phase 4’s greatest success, work has only just started for this new film, and it will be quite a while before we see how this new Spider-Man film will affect the MCU, good or bad.
For now, though, the fact that a new film is being written shows that the webslinger will continue to be a part of the MCU, and that Marvel and Sony, the latter still owning the film rights to the character, are still working together. It’s something that fans no doubt wish to continue, especially after the scare regarding the character’s future back in 2019.
But until we know more about this fourth Spider-Man film, we’ll just have to wait and see where it, and Phase 5, are heading towards.
