Kentucky WR Dane Key Transfers To Nebraska

The Kentucky wide receiver group has taken a major hit during this transfer portal window. Barion Brown hit the transfer portal and landed at LSU. His running mate Dane Key announced his intent to enter the portal in early December, and we now know his next home. ESPN.com is reporting that Key will be transferring to Nebraska for what will be his final collegiate season. This is a really nice get for Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers, as Key brings veteran leadership to this group.

Dane Key recorded 126 receptions for 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns during his three seasons for the Wildcats. What probably played a big part in this decision for Key was getting to play for his receivers coach Daikiel Shorts Jr., as Nebraska hired Shorts Jr. from Kentucky less than a month ago. Key had a career year in 2024 despite very poor quarterback play across three different passers. He finished 2024 with 47 receptions for 715 yards and two touchdowns. He now gets to play with Dylan Raiola, who could very easily help him eclipse those numbers in 2025.

It has been a very nice transfer portal for Nebraska, as their transfer class is headlined by transfer EDGE Williams Nwaneri. Dane Key is another huge get for this team and looks to take that next step in 2025 after going 6-6 in 2024. Nebraska became bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016, and in Matt Rhule’s third season, expectations are going to be much higher for the Cornhuskers. This team is shaping up to be very competitive, but now it’s all about putting the pieces in place and executing. Nebraska may be a team to watch next season.
