Keita Bates-Diop has signed with the Phoenix Suns. This was first reported by Woj on Twitter.
Keita Bates-Diop signed a two-year, $5 million contract with the Suns. He signs this contract after playing 67 games with the Spurs. His stats from last year are 9.7 PPG on 50.8% shooting, 1.5 assists per game, and 3.7 rebounds per game, in about 21 minutes per game.
Keita Bates-Diop has spent the last 3 seasons with the Spurs, improving every year as a contributor. KPD is only 27 and still has room to grow. The Suns got him on a team-friendly contract of 2 years for $5 million. KPD can be an Swiss Army Knife for the Suns. He surely won’t be needed to score the basketball with Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker on the roster. His value will come more from playing defense and providing valuable minutes off the bench for the Suns.
The Phoenix Suns will be continuing to try to contend for a title this year after they dealt an aging Chris Paul and traded for Bradley Beal in the same off-season. With Kevin Durant already 34, the end of his prime will be soon. The Suns are trying to maximize their title chances with their inevitable championship window closing.
The Suns got a cheap deal for a good player off the bench that will play 20 minutes and will be very helpful for the Suns. KBD also is a winner in this deal even though his contract is cheap. He will get plenty of eyes on him on playing a championship-caliber team, with a chance to win a ring. As mentioned, he is still only 27, with room to grow. These 2 years will allow him to grow on a contender to hopefully get a nice pay day after 2 years.
