The Denver Nuggets have reached the mountaintop, winning the 2023 NBA Finals for their first title in franchise history. However, many still are not giving the Nuggets and two-time Nikola Jokic their much-deserved respect. Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns recently went on the Pat Bev Podcast with a wild take. He claims the T-Wolves’ play-in run last season was “more special” than what Denver just accomplished. Here’s what he had to say:
“I just played them in the playoffs. Bro, they was telling us our plays. They weren’t even talking, ball just goes right to an area and the person was randomly right there. I’m like, how is this possible? But they also what? What’s one of things that, like, you see…it was more special what we did in Minnesota because we had, we had like what? A month? And then we had training camp, and it was like you better figure it all out right now and we really figured it out quick.“
Everyone including the media and everyone to buy-in to who we was. We had an image, a brand of basketball. When you came to Minnesota, we was in your neck of the woods, we knew how we was going to play. You know what you was going to get, you knew what you was going to see. You knew we was going to compete. We got that done quick. Think about it. They had what? Jokic been in the league for?”
Patrick Beverley chimed in: “Three or four years.”
And KAT continued,
“If you think about it – four years? We got it done in four months!”
Let’s put aside how contrived and pointless the NBA Play-In is for a second. Is KAT serious? Because the Denver Nuggets had more time to build up to their title run, it’s less special than Minnesota winning a made-up playoff game?
While I’m sure the play-in victory was nice for Timberwolves fans who have had very little to celebrate lately, this is absurd. We’re literally talking about winning the NBA Finals. It’s even more ridiculous considering this is Denver’s first-ever NBA championship. Think about how special it is for those fans.
Have your play-in victory KAT. If that’s what you think special is, the Timberwolves have a long way to go.
