Nothing says sorry quite like a boatload of money. There were reports that the Vikings tried to trade Justin Jefferson in an attempt to swap him in some sort of deal for Malik Nabers. After the failed pursuit of Nabers, Minnesota has quickly pivoted and took care of Jefferson financially. The former LSU wide receiver is now a VERY rich man.
Jefferson, 24, will become the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
The contract for Jefferson will be four years in length for $140 million. $110 of which is fully guaranteed. A monster payday for one of if not the best wide receiver in the NFL. Jefferson aimed to break the wide receiver market and he did exactly that with this new deal. Jefferson will also make $19.743 million on the 5th year option in 2024. Add it all together and Jefferson is going to be a VERY rich man.
Honestly the biggest question in Minnesota now will be the development of JJ McCarthy. Jefferson is locked in and in place. If McCarthy can become a real franchise quarterback, the Vikings have a great path forward. That’s still an “if” though given that Sam Darnold is expected to carry the load at the beginning of the 2024-25 NFL Season. We here at Vendetta, however, like McCarthy’s chances to make it.
Next up on the docket to get paid? Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. We certainly have a bench mark here to work with.
