The Vikings left the 2020 NFL Draft with Justin Jefferson. The Packers picked Jordan Love instead. That decision alone likely cost the Packers the win in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL Season.
Jefferson was just a man amongst boys to start the season. Jefferson was so dominant that Jaire Alexander had to complain to the media to let it be known that it wasn’t his call to not shadow the former LSU product. Jefferson finished the game with nine receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Not only could Jefferson not be covered, it also looked like the Packers had no interest in covering him.
After the game, Rodgers was very complimentary of Jefferson. How could he not be given the wide receivers he has to work with? Incoming hot take? Maybe, maybe not. Rodgers called Jefferson the best overall player in the game today.
Does Rodgers have a point? For sure. Jefferson now has five games with 150 receiving yards or more. The only player in NFL history with more by the age of 23 is Randy Moss. So yeah… pretty good company. Since entering the NFL, Jefferson’s 3,200 yards are 132 more than second place Devante Adams. So yeah… pretty good.
I was pretty adamant about Jefferson not being WR1 for fantasy. So far that looks like a pretty cold take. I had Davante Adams and Ja’Marr Chase ranked ahead of him. It’s a long season. Both Adams and Chase were monsters in their own right yesterday too.
In terms of Jefferson, I don’t think there is any doubt this is one of the best players the NFL has to offer.
