After three phenomenal seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Justin Herbert and the organization have agreed upon a five-year, $262.5 million extension, NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news Tuesday.

The #Chargers and star QB Justin Herbert have agreed to terms on a blockbuster 5-year extension worth $262.5M, per me and @MikeGarafolo, including monster guarantees to protect Herbert and lock him in for the future.

Herbert has been seen as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL since his rookie year in 2020. The former Oregon Ducks QB has thrown for over 90 touchdowns in just three seasons and has only been intercepted 35 times.
Not only can Herbert throw touchdowns, but he also throws them with accuracy. In all three seasons in the NFL, Herbert has had a completion percentage of 66 percent or better. On top of all this, Herbert is now being coached by longtime Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
“That would put you quite into the deficit,” Herbert said. “I think we’ve done a great job of picking up the offense and doing exactly what [Chargers Offensive Coordinator] Kellen [Moore] has asked of us.
“When it comes time for camp, the role of the quarterback is to be out there for his team and do everything that he can to put that team in a position to win,” Herbert added. “I understand that responsibility. It’s something that you’ll address when the time comes, but I guess we’ll see.”
Los Angeles and Herbert will look to get back on track this season with bigger hopes heading into the playoffs. Last season, the young stud in Herbert and, most notably Brandon Staley, were the ones to blame. But Tom Telesco and the Chargers organization would never even consider firing Staley.
Now with more weapons and a new look at offensive coordinator, the Chargers will look to compete for a championship in one of the hardest divisions in football.
Can Justin Herbert pull off an MVP season in only his fourth year? Let us know in the comments.
