Justin Herbert is Drawing Comparisons to Aaron Rodgers

Los Angeles Chargers center, Corey Linsley, made an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday. Linsley addressed several topics regarding the Chargers but his high praise of Justin Herbert was what stuck out. Linsley compared the up-and-coming Herbert to four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. This comparison was less about Herbert’s play and more about his mindset.

“The biggest thing with Justin (Herbert), and Aaron (Rodgers) has the same thing, is that fire, perfectionist-type attitude,” Linsley told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “They are expressed a little bit differently, they are obviously not the same person. When Aaron (Rodgers) was on, he obviously can’t be stopped, and if you weren’t on, he was going to let you know. It was because he has that perfectionist competitive fire inside of him and that’s what Justin (Herbert) has.

If anyone has the right to compare a quarterback to Rodgers, it’s Linsley. Linsley played in Green Bay for seven years while Rodgers was under center. Last season was his first year out of Green Bay as he made the move to Los Angeles.

Linsley did not stop his praise of Herbert there. He also mentioned that Herbert is the type of player that you want as the quarterback of your team.

“Whatever (Justin Herbert) is not good at right now, he knows it and he is going to get there,” Linsley said. “I think for our team as a whole, that’s huge. It’s enormous to have a leader like that where everyone can really get behind him.”

Herbert is certainly not at the level of Aaron Rodgers. However, after a sophomore season where he threw for 5,014 yards and 38 touchdowns, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic. If Herbert can improve like Linsley is suggesting, the sky is the limit for the 24-year-old quarterback.
