Jurrien Timber Might Just Be A Superhero In The Flesh

Jurrien Timber was seen back at training today in Dubai to the delight of Arsenal fans around the world. In fact, it is reported that he is aiming to actually come back on Feb. 21 for Arsenal’s Round of 16 Champions League bout against FC Porto.

The new signing from Ajax had barely played a half of football in the Community Shield against Manchester City back in August before he went down with what looked to be a serious knee injury. Turns out he had torn his ACL–quite possibly the worst scenario for Mikel Arteta and his big plans for the upcoming season.

Now Jurrien Timber’s absence coupled with Takehiro Tomiyasu‘s injury issues has been catastrophic for the Gunners with Ben White having to play through injury on the right-hand side and Oleksandr Zinchenko having an extremely rough season so far on the left-hand side. Timber’s athletic freakiness and calmness on the ball are desperately needed as soon as possible in this Arsenal side.

This begs the question: Are they pushing him to be back before he’s truly ready since his services are so necessary? My initial answer may have been yes, but the real answer might just be that Jurrien Timber is a superhero. Every report for the last few months has claimed his rehab programs are flying ahead of schedule and he’s an insanely hard worker.

Coming back from an ACL injury in around seven months is crazy to me. I do hope Arsenal exercises caution with Jurrien Timber as he has the potential to be a real piece for the team for many years to come.

At the same time, as a fan, it’s extremely hard to not want him out there as soon as possible considering that Arsenal is in contention for two major trophies this year and he can make a real impact in the club getting there.
