JuJu Smith-Schuster’s knee is in danger: ‘Could explode at any point’

The New England Patriots have a big problem on their hands. After recently signing JuJu Smith-Schuster, his health is a concern, most notably his knee. His knee condition is so bad that some are speculating it “could explode at any point.”

Smith-Schuster has battled injury problems since he entered the NFL, facing at least one health setback in nearly every year. The former USC receiver encountered his first knee-related problem in November of the 2019 season. He would go onto miss four games after spraining his patella in a game against the Cleveland Browns.

“JuJu Smith-Schuster’s knee is a mess. That thing could explode at any point. And so you almost have to keep an extra receiver because of that,” NFL Insider Albert Breer said.

Breer wasn’t the only one asked about Smith-Schuster’s knee situation on NBC Sports. Greg Bedard would go onto also make a statement regarding the Patriots’ receiving corps.

“If JuJu is healthy, they have three: JuJu, DeVante Parker, and Kendrick Bourne,” Bedard said. “They really like Demario Douglas, they really like Kayshon Boutte. Tyquan Thornton, I don’t know if he’s going to have to go on IR or not, but I think they keep six as of right now.

“You lose one of the top three and all of a sudden, two rookies and a second-round pick who hasn’t played or practiced at all is in there.”

Smith-Schuster was seen as one of the big splashes the Patriots made in the offseason. New England signed the veteran wide receiver as a replacement for Jakobi Meyers, who left for the Las Vegas Raiders.

No further updates have been provided on the status of Smith-Schuster’s knee and if he will miss a significant amount of time, but as of right now, it’s not looking good for the former Pro Bowl receiver.
